Platelet rich plasma, prepared from your own blood, used for hair thinning and skin quality. Evidence is genuinely stronger for hair than for face.
The evidence for PRP in hair thinning is considerably stronger than for skin. We treat those two requests differently as a result.
PRP is made from your own blood. A sample is spun to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors, and that concentrate is injected into the scalp or the skin. Because it comes from you there is no question of an allergic response.
For early hair thinning the evidence is reasonably good, and it works best alongside medical management rather than instead of it. For facial skin quality the evidence is weaker and the effect subtler. We will tell you which of those you are asking about and how confident we are in the answer.
What it treats

Skin and ResurfacingThe strongest indication, particularly where thinning is recent and follicles are still present.
Often responds well, alongside investigation of any underlying cause.

How it works
Four steps, in this order. Nothing is treated until it has been assessed, and nothing is repeated until it has been reviewed.
For hair, a physician establishes the pattern and looks for underlying causes, since some hair loss needs investigating rather than injecting.
Results
Tenderness and mild swelling at the treated sites. Scalp treatment can feel sore for a day. No washing the hair for several hours.
Tenderness resolves. Small bruises are possible at injection points.
For hair, reduced shedding first and new growth later. For skin, subtle improvement in texture.
Assessed against baseline photographs. Maintenance sessions are typical every six to twelve months.

We do not treat in these situations, and we will say so in the consultation, which you are not charged for.
Questions
The evidence is reasonably good for early thinning where follicles are still present. It works best alongside medical management rather than as a replacement for it, and it does not regrow hair from areas that are already bald.
Hair. The evidence there is stronger. Facial PRP produces subtler results and is often better combined with microneedling than used alone.
The blood draw is routine. Scalp injections sting and the area feels tender for a day. Numbing helps considerably.
Three to four, four to six weeks apart, then maintenance every six to twelve months for hair.
It is your own blood, so there is no allergy or rejection risk. The main considerations are the injection itself and any underlying condition.
Three months for the first change and six for a proper assessment. Reduced shedding usually comes before visible new growth.
