The evidence for PRP in hair thinning is considerably stronger than for skin. We treat those two requests differently as a result.

Platelet rich plasma for hair and face in Mississauga

PRP is made from your own blood. A sample is spun to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors, and that concentrate is injected into the scalp or the skin. Because it comes from you there is no question of an allergic response.

For early hair thinning the evidence is reasonably good, and it works best alongside medical management rather than instead of it. For facial skin quality the evidence is weaker and the effect subtler. We will tell you which of those you are asking about and how confident we are in the answer.

What it treats

What prp
treat well.

And a few things they do not. If your concern is not here, the consultation is where we work out what would actually help.

Concerns treated by prp in MississaugaSkin and Resurfacing
  1. Early hair thinning

The strongest indication, particularly where thinning is recent and follicles are still present.

  2. Thinning after pregnancy or illness

Often responds well, alongside investigation of any underlying cause.

  3. Overall skin quality

Modest improvement in texture and tone, frequently combined with microneedling.

  4. Under eye area

Sometimes used where the skin is thin, with realistic expectations.

  5. Support for other treatments

Regularly combined with microneedling to improve healing and outcome.

S&C

How it works

How prp work
at Skin&Co.

Four steps, in this order. Nothing is treated until it has been assessed, and nothing is repeated until it has been reviewed.

PRP in Mississauga, step 1: assessment
01

Assessment

For hair, a physician establishes the pattern and looks for underlying causes, since some hair loss needs investigating rather than injecting.

When we say no

When we decline
prp.

We do not treat in these situations, and we will say so in the consultation, which you are not charged for.

  • Hair loss with an untreated underlying cause, which needs investigating first. Thyroid, iron and other factors matter.
  • Advanced hair loss where follicles are no longer present. PRP cannot regrow what is gone.
  • Blood disorders, certain medications, or active infection at the site.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Anyone expecting PRP alone to reverse established pattern hair loss. It works best combined with medical treatment.
  • Unrealistic expectations about facial results, where the evidence is weaker and we say so.

Questions

PRP
questions, answered.

The Skin&Co consultation room in Mississauga
Does PRP work for hair loss?

The evidence is reasonably good for early thinning where follicles are still present. It works best alongside medical management rather than as a replacement for it, and it does not regrow hair from areas that are already bald.

Is PRP better for hair or for skin?

Hair. The evidence there is stronger. Facial PRP produces subtler results and is often better combined with microneedling than used alone.

Does it hurt?

The blood draw is routine. Scalp injections sting and the area feels tender for a day. Numbing helps considerably.

How many sessions will I need?

Three to four, four to six weeks apart, then maintenance every six to twelve months for hair.

Is it safe?

It is your own blood, so there is no allergy or rejection risk. The main considerations are the injection itself and any underlying condition.

When will I see results?

Three months for the first change and six for a proper assessment. Reduced shedding usually comes before visible new growth.
